Galentine's Day Celebration
February 13, 2019
Women in Business celebrated Galentine's Day at a local wine bar and held elections for our new leadership team.
Reaching Gender Parity - Roundtable Discussion Series
November and December 2018
Women in Business partnered with admissions to host four round table discussions on gender parity and increasing diversity within the MBA program. The sessions drew between 8 and 15 student participants who discussed what gender parity meant to them and the classroom experience for female students.
These sessions opened communication channels between students and admissions, driving the idea that gender parity is an important issue to the student body. The sessions produced actionable takeaways to improve the classroom experience for female MBA candidates and recruiting a more diverse class. They also increased awareness of a developing Men as Allies group (established at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year through as a subsidiary of WIB) and awakened some students to the experience of their fellow classmates. Proactive outreach to other programs about this initiative also created a relationship with the University of Southern California Marshall’s Women in Business program.
How I Found My Internship - Roundtable Discussion
WIB hosted an internship panel of second year women. All panel participants received their internships through on-campus recruiting or their own recruiting and networking efforts, and shared their experiences and what they wish they knew last year. Participants: Shannon Russo - Dick's Sporting Goods, Helen Ji - Bank of America, Bridgar Nayiga - EY, and Laura Lee Dootson - Walmart.
Headshot Retake Event
Current MBA students volunteered their services to retake professional headshots for interested students over several hours on a beautiful fall day.
Skeet Shooting with Vets Club
WIB and MBA Vets club members went to Kosko Shotgun Sports in Warsaw, IN for an afternoon of instruction and shooting clays. This allowed WIB members to partake in an activity that many did not have prior exposure to, that is traditionally perceived as masculine. The outing allowed interaction and connection-building between two groups and gave members of both groups an opportunity to intersect their Mendoza clubs.
Women in Business Welcome Brunch
Second-year club members hosted a brunch for first-year members at the outset of the school year. The event allowed first-year, second-year and one-year students the opportunity to network and socialize before the stress of coursework began. This event kicked off the semester of WIB club social and professional events and allowed members to engage and ask any questions of the seasoned second-year students.
